Trasylol Attorneys

Trasylol, manufactured by Bayer A.G., is a clotting medication given to patients who are having open heart surgery to reduce bleeding during and after surgery.

A 2006 study in the New England Journal of Medicine claimed that bypass surgery patients who were given Trasylol had twice the risk for kidney failure, heart attack, stroke and death. Another study indicated a higher risk for kidney damage, but not heart attack or stroke. Following the publication of both studies, the FDA issued a public health advisory, and subsequently approved a new warning on the label for Trasylol.

In November 2007, Bayer A.G. announced that it would withdraw Trasylol following another study suggesting that it increased death rates, and in May 2008, Trasylol was permanently withdrawn from the market, except for restricted research situations.
