The Estate and Family of Walter Graves Jr. sued Graphic Packaging International, Inc. for the wrongful death of Mr. Graves on a products liability theory claiming that the defendant exposed Mr. Graves to asbestosis containing products without warning him of the dangers posed by the asbestosis containing products over a long period of time with the result that he developed mesothelioma (lung cancer) and died prematurely. |

Travis Stewart, the father of Mya George, sued Louisiana Department of Social Services on a wrongful death theory alleging that the Department was grossly negligent in failing to protect his child from abuse by Jessie White, the child's stepfather. White beat Mya to death in 2003 and was later convicted of murder and serving a life sentence. Mya's mother, Melissa Turnage, pled guilty to cruelty to a juvenile and was placed on probation. The defenses asserted by the State are not available other than it appears that the State claimed that Jessie White and Melissa Turnage were the sole cause of the child's death and that Department of Social Service employees assigned to the case did everything they could to protect the child from abuse. |
